Use your creativity in the growing hairstyling industry. Lifelong learning is a necessary requirement to keep up with the latest trends and is a major part of this career.
The MITT hairstyling program provides the competitive edge to succeed. Studying in our full-service salon, students will have the opportunity to practice and perform all types of classic styling techniques, as well as barbering and advanced haircutting techniques, colour or chemical texture services. The hairstyling program is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba and is designed in consultation with industry to ensure the curriculum meets employer’s needs.

Applicants should be currently enrolled in or have successfully completed credits or the equivalent standing from a Canadian school in:
- Grade 10 Math (20S)
- Grade 10 English Language Arts (20F)

To attend MITT High School, you must have successfully completed Grades 9 and 10 English Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical/Health Education, Science, and Social Studies.

MITT High School is tuition-free! You may need to purchase supplies for your technical training.
MITT High School students earn a Senior Years Technology Diploma and an MITT Certificate.
You can receive credit for Apprenticeship Manitoba in-school technical training and hours towards the Apprenticeship Manitoba program by:
- Completing your skilled trade program with an accumulated average of 70 per cent or better
- Gaining employment
- Registering as an apprentice within two years of graduation

Introduction to Hairstyling (HR-210) — 120 hours
This course introduces students to fundamental hairstyling skills, industry operations, and salon safety. Topics include sanitation practices, essential tools and equipment, and an overview of the hairstyling industry. Students develop foundational techniques such as braiding, roller setting, and thermal styling.Basic Hairstyling (HR-220) — 120 hours
This course explores hair and scalp properties, wet hairstyling techniques, and treatments. Students practice formal updos, shampooing, conditioning, and scalp analysis. The course also introduces Afro-textured and other natural hair types.Basic Haircutting and Thermal Styling (HR-230) — 120 hours
This course covers essential tools, techniques, and anatomical knowledge for haircutting and thermal styling. Students develop precision cutting skills and learn how to use heat-styling tools safely and effectively.Related Salon Services (HR-240) — 120 hours
This course introduces additional salon services, including manicures, facials, makeup application, and hair removal. Students also receive an introduction to perm wrapping and hair colouring while beginning client interactions in preparation for future coursework.Intermediate Haircutting and Barbering Techniques (HR-250) — 120 hours
This course expands on haircutting techniques with a focus on barbering. Students develop clipper, razor, and texturizing skills while refining their cutting and finishing techniques.Hair Colouring (HR-260) — 120 hours
This course covers colour theory and application techniques. Students explore different hair colour classifications, learn formulation basics, and practice colour correction and blending.Salon Operation (HR-310) — 120 hours
Students learn salon planning and management, including retail and reception duties, as well as develop their resume and career portfolio.Intermediate Hairstyling and Artificial Hair (HR-270) — 120 hours
This course explores wigs, hair extensions, and hair enhancements while advancing wet and thermal styling skills. Students also develop expertise in styling Afro-textured hair and mastering advanced braiding techniques.
