    Essential Workplace Skills for Carpentry (CAR-300) — 40 hours

    Introduces the carpentry trade and construction industry, covering Manitoba’s apprenticeship system, career options, emerging technologies, effective communication skills, and construction-related mathematics.

    Health and Safety (CAR-310) — 40 hours

    Prepares students for safe work in construction, focusing on identifying workplace hazards, maintaining a safe environment, understanding the Workplace Health and Safety Act, and includes WHMIS training.

    Construction Tools, Materials, and Methods (CAR-320) — 92 hours

    Explores the selection, use, and maintenance of hand and power tools, as well as materials commonly used in construction, emphasizing sustainability practices and efficient material use.

    Drawings and Specifications (CAR-330) — 42 hours

    Introduces basic surveying, site layout, interpretation of construction drawings and specifications, and provides hands-on experience with site layout tools and equipment.

    Building Construction 1 (CAR-340) — 63 hours

    Focuses on initial building construction processes, including concrete science, formwork, slabs, footings, and foundations, with practical experience in footing, floor framing, and concrete applications.

    Building Construction 2 (CAR-350) — 63 hours

    Expands knowledge of construction by covering roof and wall constructions, focusing on framing projects, and includes topics like temporary access equipment and wall forms.

    Building Construction 3 (CAR-360) — 80 hours

    Develops skills in building construction finishing, covering materials, processes, and applications of interior and exterior finishing, including layout and installation of wall, ceiling, and roof coverings; windows and doors; and flooring.

    Applied Building Construction (CAR-370) — 48 hours

    Provides opportunities to apply accumulated knowledge and skills through real-world carpentry projects, emphasizing professionalism, work skills, and includes career readiness workshops to prepare for apprenticeships.
