As you return for the academic year, we want to share some important updates about safety services at the South Winnipeg Campus. RRC Polytech’s Safety and Health team will be supporting MITT students throughout the teach-out period, helping ensure safe learning environments, access to respirator fit testing where required, and consistent safety resources and supports across campus.
Safety and Health Services at the South Winnipeg Campus
MITT and RRC Polytech share a strong commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of all students, staff, and campus visitors. Safety remains a top priority for both institutions. To provide clear accountability and a consistent approach, beginning next week RRC Polytech will oversee the delivery of safety and health programs and services for both the MITT and RRC Polytech communities.
There will be a dedicated Safety and Health Officer (SHO) who will provide support at the South Winnipeg Campus buildings. They will be stationed at Henlow and will be available to provide support and services to the Fultz and Pembina buildings. Students can reach out to safety@rrc.ca to connect with the team with any questions or concerns.
Over the summer, safety teams worked with academic leaders to review learning and workshop spaces across health and trades programs, helping ensure facilities, equipment, and safety practices continue to meet provincial safety requirements.
Respiratory Fit Testing Program
A Respiratory Fit Test program will be in place for students in the welding program in order to ensure consistency across all RRC Polytech campuses.
RRC Polytech Safety and Health Officers and Technicians will conduct fit testing appointments at the South Winnipeg Campus. This year, as part of the transition, costs associated with the respirator fit test for returning students will be paid for by MITT.
Fit tests are valid for two years unless there has been a significant change in facial structure, such as dental surgery or substantial weight loss. If you have previously completed a fit test, please bring your fit test records and respirator to your appointment.
MITT program areas are working with RRC Polytech Safety and Health team to schedule respirator fit testing for instructional staff and students who require them.

Safety and Health Policies and Resources
As safety and health services will be provided by RRC Polytech throughout the teach-out period, MITT students will follow RRC Polytech’s safety policies and procedures while learning at the South Winnipeg Campus. These policies meet or exceed Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health requirements and help ensure a safe and consistent experience for all students.
