Before You Start at MITT
New to MITT? Here's what you need to know to get started.
Getting started
Participate in mandatory online workshops and in-person activities scheduled before your program begins. Details will be provided closer to the start date.
- Class hours: Your program’s class hours are in your Letter of Acceptance and on your program’s guidebook. Generally, programs run Monday to Friday. Please see below for approximate class times.
- Day: Programs start and end between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
- Day – Morning: Programs start and end between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
- Day – Afternoon: Programs start and end between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm.
- Evening: Programs start and end between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
- Program start dates: Check the Academic Schedule for your program’s start date and other important dates.
- Class format: Most programs are hybrid, combining in-person and online classes. Ensure you’re in Winnipeg before classes start to attend orientation and in-person sessions.
- Campus location: Find your program’s campus location in the program guidebook.
- Course enrolment: MITT will register you for your courses; you don’t need to register yourself. Your courses will appear in your Student Portal account once registered.
- Course information: Visit your program page and click on “Course Information” to view course descriptions.
- Stay connected: Access your course materials with MyLearning, MITT’s online learning platform. Your account will become active shortly before classes start.
- Online learning support: Visit Technology Resources for helpful guides and digital tools to enhance your learning experience.
Textbooks and supplies: Check the Program Information page to find out what you’ll need.
- Attendance requirements: Regular attendance is crucial. Explore our Policies for more information.
- Withdrawal and refunds: If you cannot attend classes, familiarize yourself with our Program Withdrawal policies.
- Laptop requirements: Ensure you have a laptop and software applications that meet the technical specifications required for your program.

When is my tuition due and how can I pay?
Visit Tuition and Fees and Fee Payment for a list of payment deadlines and accepted methods of payment.
Your personal account statement, with balance due, can be found in your Student Portal Account.
Please remember that non-payment of tuition fees by the required deadline(s) will result in your withdrawal from the program. Students who withdraw or are withdrawn or suspended from their program are subject to MITT’s refund schedule.
Do I need to purchase textbooks and supplies, and where can I buy them?
Most programs require students to purchase textbooks and supplies. You will receive information about purchasing textbooks and other program-related expenses from your instructors at the beginning of your program. Visit Textbooks and Supplies for more information.
What courses will I be taking?
Visit your program page to view the courses and course descriptions for your program. Your program guide may also have more information.
How do I register for courses in my program?
We will register you into your courses – you do not need to register yourself. Once you have been registered, your courses will appear in your Student Portal Account.
Closer to the start of classes, you can also log in to MyLearning, the online course management software, for course information and materials, and messages from your instructor(s). Your account for MyLearning may not be active until shortly before the start of classes.
What will my overall schedule look like?
The class hours for post-secondary programs vary. For your program’s class hours, refer to your Letter of Acceptance, or check your program guide. In general:
- Day programs: Monday through Friday, spans the morning and afternoon (for example 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
- Day – morning programs: Monday through Friday, programs start in the morning and end by 1:00 pm (for example 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).
- Day – afternoon programs: Monday through Friday, starts at or after 11:00 a.m. and ends by 7:00 p.m. (for example 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.).
- Evening programs: Monday through Friday, starts at or after 3:00 p.m. and runs later than 7:00 p.m (for example 5:00pm to 9:00pm).
- Post-graduate programs: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
When does my program start?

All MITT programs are delivered in blended learning, a style of education where students attend both traditional in-person classes as well as online classes.
All students are required to be in Winnipeg prior to the start of classes to attend orientation and begin in-person learning as of the program start date.
Instructors will provide students with detailed information on specific program schedules prior to the start of classes.
Students who are unable to attend classes will be subject to MITT’s student policies and schedules, including:

Where will I attend in-person classes – which campus?
The location for in-person classes depends on your program. Please refer to your program guide for details.
What about orientation?
Online workshops and in-person orientation activities are scheduled to occur prior to the start of each program intake. Visit Orientation for more information. Please check back regularly for updates.

Why do I need a MITT student email account?
You will receive an @student.mitt.ca email address. This will be one of the primary ways MITT and your instructors will contact you. You will also use this email address to log in to the online learning software, MyLearning.
We will send login instructions to the personal email address you provided on your MITT application.
Please continue to regularly check the personal email address you have been using to communicate with MITT. You can update your personal email address and other contact information in your Student Portal Account.
How do I get a student ID Card (or replacement) and what is it used for?
Your first student ID card is provided to you at no cost when you begin your program. A fee is charged for replacement cards.
You will use your student ID card for identification purposes while on campus, and also for Winnipeg Transit peggo card (reduced fare), library use/printing services, and student discounts, where applicable.

- Must be a currently admitted student
- Tuition and fees must be paid up to date
- No holds on account
- Must have valid government-issued photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport, PR card to create or pick up student ID)
- Must have a Manitoba (Canada) address and all contact information updated in your MITT Student Portal
Ordering Your Student ID Card
- Ensure you are a currently admitted student.
- Verify your tuition and fee payments are up to date.
- Bring a valid piece of photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or PR card) when processing or picking up your student ID.
How to submit your photo
Option 1: Email Your Photo
Students may email their photo to csr@mitt.ca following these requirements:
- Passport-style photo, clean and sharp
- Eyes open and clearly visible
- Even lighting (no shadows, glare, or flash)
- Face and shoulders must be face forward, centered, squared
- Plain white background
- Must be an original (not altered or cropped from another photo)
- File type: JPEG, maximum size 5 MB
Option 2: Have Your Photo Taken in Person
- Visit during service hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm)
- Bring government-issued photo ID
- Your card will be printed and provided to you at the same time, whenever possible

Yes, daily and monthly parking passes are available for the Henlow, Fultz, and Pembina Campuses. Visit Campus Information for details.
Are MITT campuses accessible by public transportation?

Can I purchase meals on campus?
Food is available for purchase at the Henlow, Fultz, and Pembina Campuses. Visit Campus Information for details.

What resources are available to me?
