Pembina Trails Early College (PTEC)

Are you a high school student passionate about technology, trades, or hands-on learning? The Pembina Trails Early College (PTEC) program, offered in partnership with MITT, provides an innovative pathway to combine academic studies with technical training. Prepare for in-demand careers while earning high school and post-secondary credits.
What is PTEC?
PTEC is a unique program designed by experts in the IT field, post-secondary education, and Pembina Trails School Division to deliver accelerated programming in highly technical areas such as software development, coding, networking, and cybersecurity.
Program Structure
- Grades 9 and 10: Students spend the entire day at Pembina Trails Collegiate (PTC), completing both compulsory and high-tech courses.
- Grades 11 and 12: Students split their day between PTC and MITT, taking compulsory courses at PTC and working towards post-secondary education at MITT.
This structure allows students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits simultaneously, providing a comprehensive and authentic experience for those interested in the digital world.
Who Should Apply?
PTEC is ideal for students who:
- Are currently in Grade 8 within the Pembina Trails School Division or reside in the Pembina Trails catchment area.
- Have a passion for technology, innovation, or skilled trades.
- Enjoy hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving.
- Are ready to commit to a program that blends high school and post-secondary studies.
Please note that international students or those who do not reside in the Pembina Trails School Division are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply
Application Process for 2025-2026
- Complete the application form:
- Download and complete the PTEC Application Form.
- Write a Letter of Intention:
- Explain why you are interested in becoming a student at PTEC and why the program would be a good fit for you.
- Most students submit a letter that is approximately one page in length.
- Submit your application and Letter of Intention:
- Email both documents as attachments to Mrs. Lana Francis at lafrancis@pembinatrails.ca
- Applications will not be considered unless both documents are attached.
- Once we receive your application, Mrs. Francis will send you a confirmation email.
- Attend the Grade 9 Information Session:
- Join us on February 1, 2024, at 5:30 PM to learn more about PTEC and PTC.
Application Deadline
Submit all application materials by March 20, 2024, at noon (12:00 PM).
Please note that PTEC offers 32 spots. If more than 32 students apply, a lottery system will be used to ensure all students in the Pembina Trails School Division have an equal opportunity to attend.
