Entry Requirements

  • Manitoba high school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent, including:
  • Grade 12 English Language Arts (40S) with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

International Students

  • High school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent. International applicants must meet the general entrance requirements based on country/curriculum of study. Applicants must also meet the program-specific requirements, including:
  • Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
  • All high school grades will be converted to an equivalent Manitoba grade scale.

Additional Requirements

  • Demonstrated English language proficiency (if educated outside Canada).
  • Students also must be 18 years of age or older by the official start date of the program.

Yes. The program includes a mandatory four-week, full-time work practicum with a local employer. This experience provides hands-on learning and industry exposure, helping you apply classroom concepts in a real business environment.

What are the eligibility requirements for the practicum?
To qualify for the practicum, students must:

  • Meet all program eligibility criteria
  • Hold a valid co-op work permit, as required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
  • Apply for their co-op permit at least four months before the practicum begins

Is the practicum placement guaranteed?
MITT does not guarantee practicum placements if students don’t meet eligibility requirements or if placements are unavailable. In these cases, MITT will work with students to find alternative program completion options.

Job Skills Development (EMPL-100) — 70 hours

This course provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to acquire, retain, and grow in a career. Students will develop transferable skills that employers look for when making hiring and promotional decisions. Topics covered include professionalism, adaptability, planning and organization, numeracy, information security, workplace safety, and the use of office technologies.

Business Seminars (EMPL-105) — 35 hours

This course includes a variety of personal development seminars that enhance employability and career success. Through interactive and focused sessions, students will develop highly sought-after skills for employment while supporting their journey towards entrepreneurship. Seminar topics include handling difficult situations, stress management, team building, conflict resolution, communication, professionalism, and other relevant business topics.

Cultural Essentials (EMPL-110) — 80 hours

Cultural Essentials focuses on workplace experiences and the values, attitudes, and cultures common to Canadian workplaces. Students will build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to confidently adapt to workplace environments. Topics include workplace communication, collaboration with diverse individuals, professionalism, and health and wellness.

Microsoft Word – Level 1 (BSNS-105) — 35 hours

This intensive course introduces students to Microsoft Word alongside foundational keyboarding skills. Students will learn to create, format, and edit business documents such as forms, reports, and emails. Topics include proofreading, collaboration tools, and time-saving shortcuts to boost productivity.

Microsoft Outlook – Level 1 (BSNS-115) — 25 hours

This hands-on course teaches students to use Microsoft Outlook for professional communication and task management. Topics include composing, organizing, and responding to emails, scheduling tasks and meetings, and managing contact lists. Students will also learn time-saving keyboard shortcuts.

Microsoft Excel – Level 1 (BSNS-120) — 50 hours

Students will gain proficiency in Microsoft Excel, learning to create, format, and analyze business spreadsheets. Topics include data entry, filtering and sorting, formulas, and creating and interpreting charts and graphs. The course emphasizes the practical applications of Excel in business contexts.

Fundamentals of Human Resource Management (BSNS-130) — 40 hours

This course introduces students to key principles of Human Resource Management. Topics include talent management, recruitment, training and development, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational policies. Effective communication and workforce planning are emphasized.

Budgeting for Self-Employment (EBI-110) — 65 hours

This course provides foundational knowledge and practical strategies for small business budgeting. Topics include financial concepts, the budgeting process, cash flow management, risk management, cost-cutting strategies, ethical accounting practices, and tax responsibilities for small business owners.

QuickBooks Essentials (EBI-120) — 40 hours

This introductory course teaches students to use QuickBooks for accounting and payroll. Topics include creating company profiles, managing income and expenses, uploading receipts, invoicing, processing payroll, inventory management, and generating financial statements.

Foundations of Entrepreneurship (EBI-130) — 80 hours

This course focuses on the mindset and skills essential for entrepreneurship and business innovation. Students will gain knowledge in leadership, communication, ownership, negotiation, networking, and critical thinking to prepare for starting a business or driving innovation within an organization.

Business Innovation (EBI-140) — 40 hours

This course introduces strategies to prepare for and adapt to business growth, disruption, and change. Topics include change management, design thinking, creative problem-solving, disruptive technologies, and risk management approaches.

Career Development (EMPL-170) — 40 hours

Students will develop the skills to create professional resumes, cover letters, and portfolios tailored to specific job descriptions. Mock interviews will help build confidence and prepare students for successful job applications.

Business Planning and Development (EBI-150) — 100 hours

This course guides students through the seven steps of creating a comprehensive business plan. Using the Business Plan Creator Portal, students will gain hands-on experience in market research, client profiling, marketing strategies, financial projections, goal setting, operations, risk assessment, and networking.

Workplace Practicum (EBI-200) — 100 hours

This practicum allows students to apply their knowledge in a real-world work setting. Students will observe and participate in daily tasks and job shadow managers, intrapreneurs, or business owners to gain insights into business management, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
