Yes. Students learn and practice their skills in a full-service salon environment on campus, providing real-world experience and client interaction throughout the program.
No, the program does not include a formal practicum. Instead, hands-on training is built into the curriculum through MITT’s in-house salon.
Yes. The Hairstyling program is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba. Students who register as apprentices and meet the following criteria may receive Level 1 in-school technical training credit:
- Successfully complete the program with a minimum 70% average in trade-specific courses
- Pass the Manitoba Apprenticeship Practical Exam
- Accumulate at least 100 hours of hairstyling experience through employment

This course explores hair and scalp properties, wet hairstyling techniques, and treatments. Students practice formal updos, shampooing, conditioning, and scalp analysis. The course also introduces Afro-textured and other natural hair types.Basic Haircutting and Thermal Styling (HR-230) — 120 hours
This course covers essential tools, techniques, and anatomical knowledge for haircutting and thermal styling. Students develop precision cutting skills and learn how to use heat-styling tools safely and effectively.Related Salon Services (HR-240) — 120 hours
This course introduces additional salon services, including manicures, facials, makeup application, and hair removal. This course prepares students for the Manitoba Hairstylist Practical Examination. Students refine their skills in barbering, haircutting, thermal styling, roller setting, colour and foil application, and perm winding to ensure they meet industry certification standards.
