On January 28, MITT announced plans to wind down operations and transition select programs to Red River College Polytech. Throughout this process, we remain committed to supporting our students and highlighting the impact of our partnerships.

We recently partnered with Tunngasugit Inuit Resource Centre to deliver a customized Excel & Budgeting Essentials for Non-Profits training program designed to strengthen financial management capacity within the organization.
The program focused on building practical spreadsheet and budgeting skills while connecting learning directly to the real-world financial reporting needs of a non-profit organization.
As part of this four-day workshop, the Centre’s staff learned to create, format, and manage spreadsheets, including applying formulas and functions, comparing budgeted versus actual spending, and organizing data for reporting purposes.
Their training exercises were built around realistic scenarios drawn from Tunngasugit’s programs and services, allowing staff to practice with examples that closely mirrored their daily work.
“Our staff enjoyed this training; I was so happy to see everyone so focused,” shared Maxine Angoo, Executive Director at Tunngasugit Inuit Resource Centre.
The hands-on, interactive approach emphasized not only how to use Excel tools, but why accurate financial tracking is critical for transparency, accountability, and compliance with government funding requirements. For organizations that rely on detailed reporting to maintain program funding, strengthening internal financial processes can have a direct impact on sustainability and service delivery.
Participants noted immediate value from the training. Their feedback highlighted how learning to apply formulas correctly, understanding the difference between formulas and functions, and creating structured budget templates helped make financial tasks easier and more efficient.
One participant shared that the training helped them with “basically everything,” explaining that they previously had minimal Excel experience and now felt more confident navigating spreadsheets and financial data.
By strengthening financial literacy and Excel proficiency among staff, the training supports more efficient program management, stronger funding accountability, and improved operational capacity.
We’re glad that our programming could help support Tunngasugit staff and make their day-to-day operations smoother. We look forward to continuing to support partners who make a real difference across Manitoba’s workforce.
