Manufacturing Production Worker Program

The Manufacturing Production Worker Program helps newcomers in Winnipeg improve their English language skills and provides them with a pathway into employment as production workers with manufacturing companies in Manitoba.

This program is part of the Refugee Employment Development Initiative (REDI) and is a joint programming initiative between Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) and Opportunities for Employment (OFE).

In this program, students have the opportunity to:

  • Learn important language and communication skills for employment in a Canadian company
  • Gain confidence through daily language practice, workplace culture lessons, and teacher feedback
  • Develop the Essential Skills and technical skills needed to succeed in a manufacturing company in Manitoba
  • Get help and support for school, work, and home from a dedicated team of specialists including educational assistants, counsellors, employment coaches, and more

Entrance requirements

To apply for this program, you must:

  • Have come to Canada with granted refugee status or are an immigrant
  • Have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) between 1 – 4
  • Be currently unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week
  • Be available to study full-time

Description

Part 1: Language Training
10 weeks at MITT – 609 Erin Street, Winnipeg, MB

Part 2: Employment Training
Up to 8 weeks at OFE – 294 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB

The Manufacturing Production Worker Program features two phases: sector-specific language training with MITT and occupation-specific employment training with OFE. Language training at MITT focuses specifically on the English skills necessary to succeed in employment as a production worker in the manufacturing sector.
