External Awards

Throughout Manitoba and Canada, there are many organizations who sponsor student scholarships and bursaries. Future and current MITT students are encouraged to research and apply for every scholarship and award where they meet some or all of the eligibility criteria.

Search for scholarships specific to an industry or program of study, or for other interests and activities such as: sports affiliations, volunteerism and community involvement; religious/cultural associations; unions or corporate scholarships through parents or family member's employers. Below are some examples.

Program-Specific Awards

Trades Programs

Manufacturing Trades and Technology Program Scholarship $2,000 award for students entering post-secondary with the goal of entering the manufacturing industry as a career. Deadline January 15.

Dewalt Trades Scholarship Eight awards of $5,000 USD are available to Canadian students attending a trades program. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, high school seniors or current post-secondary students, with a 2.0 - 4.0 GPA, enrolled in or planning to enroll in a trade construction, industrial, motor/power sector, mechanics, or technology degree/certificate. Applications for 2025 are due January 16.

Jake Weitz Memorial Scholarship One award of $1,000 to support students with a love of mechanics in their post-secondary journey. This award is for students entering into an automotive technology program and who demonstrate financial need. Applications are due March 1. 

Nellie McClung Trailblazer Scholarship Five awards of $1,750 are available to self-identified female students considering careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, math (STEAM), business or underrepresented trades (automotive, carpentry, electrical applications, electronics technician, millwright, welding). This award is available to current Grade 12 students and to post-secondary students in their first year of studies. Applications are due March 31.

Metal Supermarkets Trade School Scholarship: Four awards of $2,500 are available annually based on the applicant’s academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in related extracurricular activities, especially those related to their chosen trade. Students accepted to and attending a post-secondary trade school program in the fall term are eligible, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students. Applications are due June 27.

MITT Imperial Award for Electrical or Millwright One award per year in the amount of $2,000 is available to support a student in the Electrical Applications or Millwright program who identifies as female or Indigenous. Applications will be available in October.

MITT Winnipeg Construction Association Bursary Established in 2024 by the Winnipeg Construction Association, two awards of $2,000 each support post-secondary students in construction sector programs. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time in one of the following programs: Carpentry, Electrical Applications, CAD Technician, Electrical Applications, or Industrial Mechanic/Millwright. Applications available in October. 

Tech Programs

Printing United Alliance Scholarships As a Printing United Alliance Educational Institution member school, incoming fall MITT Graphic and Print Technician students are eligible to apply for several $2,000 scholarships. Deadline May 15.

Sophos Women in Tech Bursary Three awards in the amount of $1,500 are available to support students in MITT's tech programs who identify as female and who demonstrate a financial need. Applications available in October.

Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship One $4,000 scholarship is awarded to one outstanding young woman+ in the Manitoba community. The scholarship exists to provide educational opportunity, and is heavily focused on recognizing and supporting young women+ who demonstrate leadership ability, more so than academic standing. Candidates must be women+, aged 17-24, entering or enrolled in a Manitoba post-secondary institution, must demonstrate financial need, and other eligibility factors. Mayor's Scholarship for Community Leadership Five $1,000 scholarships for students involved in activities that improve Winnipeg communities. Deadline June 2.

Manitoba Beef Producers Scholarship Six $1,000 scholarships for MBP members or their children attending a university, college, other post-secondary institution or pursuing trades training. Deadline 4:30 p.m. on June 20, 2025. To apply, visit the Manitoba Beef Producers website and navigate to the “Scholarships” section.

Gord Hannon Memorial Scholarship $500 awarded to a Manitoba resident, who identifies as female, and and who is working to overcome barriers to education as a result of systems and actions that have led to poverty or oppression, or are the result of colonization, racism, discrimination or inequities. Deadline July 15.

Rise Above Scholarship Single parents with sole custody of their children may be eligible for bursaries up to $3,000. Deadline July 31.

Building Foundations Bursary $1,000 for students living in subsidized housing or receiving rental subsidity from Manitoba Housing. Deadline September 30.

Manitoba Motor Dealers Association Annual Supplier Scholarship  6 scholarships valued at $1,000, awarded to Manitoba students at a secondary or post-secondary level who are pursuing education that could lead to employment with a new car, truck or heavy truck dealership in Manitoba (high school trades program, or a post-secondary area of study related to business including Business Administration, IT, Human Resources, Communications and Marketing). Deadline October 30.

Premio Campo Fogolar Award $1,000 for students with Friuli Venezia Giulia/Veneto Heritage. Deadline October 31.

Athena Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship One award of $4,000 awarded annually to a young woman+ aged 17-24 years who is entering or enrolled in a Manitoba post-secondary institution for the upcoming academic year, who has financial need and who has a proven track record of contributing to the community, clear career aspirations, and developing leadership qualities. Applications due March 1. 

National Union of Public and General Employees Tell Us Why Unions Matter. Deadline July 7.

Support Our Troops Scholarships for current/former members of the military and their families. Deadline July 20.

Storwell's Foster Children Bursary Program Awards $2,000 annually to an applicant formerly in foster care to help them attend post-secondary education. Deadline December 31.

Horatio Alger National Vocational & Technical Scholarship Up to $3,000 to pursue vocational and technical education. Deadlines vary.

TransCanada Community Scholarships For community leadership, Indigenous students, and trades programs.

Native Women's Association of Canada Awards for Indigenous women, mothers, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse peoples. Three different awards are being offered, click the link to see the Scholarships and Bursaries in the menu. Deadline July 14.

Louis Riel Institute Bursaries and Awards The Louis Riel Institute offers a range of bursaries and awards empowering Red River Métis individuals to pursue their educational and professional aspirations. Several awards are available on their webpage, deadline to apply is July.

Primary Indigenous Student Bursary Five awards of $2,000 will be awarded to provide financial support to full-time Indigenous students in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. The scholarship is available to Indigenous students in any year of their post-secondary education who are enrolled in programs such as drafting (CAD Technician), IT, or business. Applications open May 1 and deadline for submissions is August 1.

ATCO Indigenous Education Awards Merit-based bursaries and scholarships for Indigenous students entering a trades or technical program. Deadline is August 16.

Jack Jacobs Football Scholarship Open to all athletes (including non-football) who identify identify as having Indigenous heritage from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Must be attending final year of high school and planning to attend post-secondary in the fall. Deadline August 31.

Helen Betty Osborne Memorial Fund Awards Acknowledge Indigenous students who are making a difference in eliminating the barriers of racism, sexism, violence and indifference in society. Apply for one of 30 awards valued at $2,500 each. Deadline is October 17.

Sarah Gaulin Memorial Scholarship Awards $1,000 for students with ongoing mental health conditions attending post-secondary in the fall. Deadline April 1.

Variety Manitoba Post-Secondary Education Awards $2,000-$4,000 in support for students with a permanent disability. Deadline June 30.

Eleanor Pluchinski Memorial Scholarship Awards five $1,000 scholarships annually in the fall to post-secondary students with experiences of mental illnesses or mental health challenges. Deadline extended to June 30.
