Recognition of Prior Learning
MITT recognizes that significant learning takes place at other schools as well as outside of class. By providing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) services, MITT ensures that MITT programs are engaging and build on students’ prior experiences.
RPL includes two different pathways, Credit Transfer and PLAR.
- Credit Transfer is the awarding of credit at MITT for courses completed at another recognized school. Credit Transfer is available for a limited number of MITT programs and is subject to certain restrictions to ensure all program standards are met.
Applicants must initiate a request for Credit Transfer during the admission process, and no later than 30 days prior to the start of the program. Complete instructions can be found on the request form:

- Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is the awarding of credit or advanced standing at MITT for formal or informal learning acquired through self-study, work, and other life experiences which are ineligible for Credit Transfer. PLAR is a rigorous process, and is available on a case-by-case basis for a small number of MITT programs.
PLAR requests are made through Enrolment Services and must be received during the admissions process; contact Enrolment Services for more information.
Program-specific restrictions may exist that may limit options for Credit Transfer or Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). If applicable, these restrictions will be listed on the specific program page.
