Pre-Practicum Clearance Requirements

To determine practicum eligibility in specific programs, MITT may establish medical and/or non-medical practicum clearance requirements, including:

  • Clear Police Information Check (PIC)/Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check
  • Clear Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks
  • Current, approved immunization record
  • Valid Co-op Work Permit (international students only)

MITT may prohibit a student from proceeding with a Work Practicum placement and subsequently successfully completing a program based on the findings of their pre-practicum clearance documentation.

Prospective applicants who might not meet one of these requirements must consult with an Academic Coordinator to discuss potential program ramifications before submitting a program admission application.

MITT cannot accept Police Information Check documentation completed outside of Manitoba.

PIC, VS and abuse registries clearances are only deemed valid for a maximum period of six months and must cover the entire Work Practicum duration (e.g., end date). Year 2 students must submit new pre-practicum clearance documentation as these are annual requirements.

Some practicum sites may have mandatory COVID vaccination requirements or require unvaccinated students to participate in on-going regular COVID-19 testing pursuant to Public Health orders.

You are responsible for all costs associated in meeting these pre-practicum clearances.

MITT has entered into an agreement with ParaMed Inc. (“ParaMed”), which is an Ontario based company. On behalf of MITT, ParaMed will collect and verify student documentation required by practicum sites. The agreement MITT has entered into with ParaMed provides for the protection of student information in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Individual Privacy Act. MITT encourages all students to review the privacy policy and terms of use of ParaMed Placement Pass website, paramed.com/privacy/.

Workers’ Compensation Coverage

Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology students are eligible for coverage through Workers Compensation Board while participating in a Work Practicum placement.

If injured while on Work Practicum, students must notify their instructor immediately and the appropriate forms will be completed by Institute staff.
