MITT SIGNS INDIGENOUS EDUCATION PROTOCOL FOR COLLEGES AND INSTITUTES

The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT), along with 13 other colleges from across Canada, signed a ground-breaking, aspirational document today, committing the province’s first hybrid institution to a national plan that will address Indigenous peoples’ learning needs and support self-determination and socio-economic development of Indigenous communities.

Developed by the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Indigenous Education Committee, the Indigenous Education Protocol for Colleges and Institutes “supports colleges’ and institutes’ commitment to Indigenous education and provides a vision of how they can strive to improve and better serve Indigenous peoples” according to the press release issued by CICan earlier today.

On hand for the signing was MITT Vice-President of Enterprise and Community Relations Paul Toupin (seen standing in the photo above). MITT President & CEO Paul Holden was unable to attend the ceremony today, but had signed the document on behalf of MITT earlier in the week, making it one of the first of CICan’s 137 members to endorse the initiative.
