Career Month kicks off at MITT

November is Career Month and during the next four weeks, we’ll be providing a variety of events, as well as some expert advice, to students, prospects, and alumni.
What is Career Month?
Established by the Canadian Career Development Foundation, Career Month celebrates how Canadians achieve meaningful work and connections to rewarding futures. Each year, staff and volunteers at campuses across the country focus their efforts on events and learning opportunities dedicated to helping everyone develop careers and make the move from education to employment.
“Everyone talks about the fear of moving from studying to the ‘real world’ of working. It sounds a bit cliché, but the truth is that this is a major transition in your life,” says David Driver, Acting Coordinator of Career Development Services at MITT. “Thankfully, there are a large number of resources available today for students, and this month we’re putting a spotlight on them.”
The theme for Career Month 2021 is “It’s Possible,” a credo that can be taken in a number of directions.
“There are so many ways that ‘It’s Possible’ can be interpreted and can guide you in your scholastic and career pursuits,” says Romalie Manalang, Career Development Services Officer at MITT. “Whether you’re working toward a dream, trying to get a better work-life balance or simply trying new experiences, anything truly is possible when you set your mind to it.”

The themes for discussion are: experiences working in the fields of skilled trades, healthcare, and businessand technology as someone who is BIPOC, LGBT2SQ+ and/or a woman; strategies for building a career in these fields; and how these areas can move toward equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
