MITT plays host to visitors from around the world

This past week, Global Affairs Canada organized visits for Trade Commissioners from around the world to various Manitoba schools, including a Thursday stop at MITT.

“It was an awesome opportunity to tell the story of MITT, and Manitoba, to the Trade Commissioners,” said Bev Stuart, Associate Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Initiatives. “Rather than giving a formal sell of our school, [the tours] really allowed us to showcase ourselves as a destination for international students.”

One of the roles of Trade Commissioners is to strengthen business between Canada and their respective countries; guests were all from the education industry and spend time helping Canadian schools recruit new students from their countries. Through EduCanada Fairs they’ve hosted in their countries over the past few months, MITT has been able to send its International Recruitment team to Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam, and other locations around the world.

Thursday’s luncheon and tour included a number of speeches from alumni, current students, and instructors, which reinforced the mutually beneficial and important relationship between international students and MITT.

The Trade Commissioner visit came in the wake of the 2019 Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) conference, which took place this week in Winnipeg. The four-day conference brought more than 900 participants from 40 countries to the city. Several members of MITT attended, including two who did some teaching of their own: Michelle Romuld and Deirdre Nelson, who presented at a breakout session for attendees. The topic of their talk wasIncoporating Indigenous Perspectives in the EAP Classroom.
