The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) is expanding its educational offerings by bringing its Network and Systems Administrator Diploma program to Morden, Manitoba in Fall 2025. The program is being offered through a partnership with the City of Morden, the Morden Community Development Corporation (MCDC), and Valley Fiber.
The initiative addresses a growing need in the Pembina Valley Region for IT professionals and will give interested learners in the area access to quality post-secondary IT training right in their home community.
“MITT's expansion into Morden reflects our commitment to making quality education accessible to students across Manitoba,” said Colin Kelly, Vice-President, Academic at MITT. “On top of accessibility, we prioritize education that is industry-driven and student-focused, providing pathways to successful careers. This Network and Systems Administrator program is an example of that approach, as highly qualified IT graduates will be connected with local businesses to address workforce needs and start promising careers.”
The two-year diploma program is designed to equip students with comprehensive skills in information technology infrastructure design and support. The curriculum includes hands-on training with industry-standard hardware and software from leading technology providers such as Cisco, Microsoft, and Red Hat.
Work experience and exposure to employers is an integral part of many MITT programs, and the Network and Systems Administrator Diploma program in Morden will help connect students with local businesses through a 15-week work placement. The industry-relevant experience gained will enhance students' technical skills, confidence, employability, and job readiness, while also helping them build valuable professional connections.
“The way that this program will enable our local businesses to grow through access to local IT professionals is exciting,” said MCDC Economic Development Officer Jason Dyck. “MITT’s focus on involving local companies in tailoring the curriculum and integrating students in the workplace before they graduate will really ensure that learners have the skills applicable for the jobs they’ll be in after completing the program.”
As a key infrastructure partner in this initiative, Valley Fiber is providing the reliable, high-speed connectivity essential for modern IT training. Its advanced fiber network will power the program’s technology-driven curriculum, ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed. Conley Kehler, a member of the Valley Fiber founders group and current Valley Fiber Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, emphasizes his company's commitment to connecting communities, enabling students to study and build their careers in their rural hometowns.
“Valley Fiber is proud to partner with the City of Morden and MITT to bring our innovative fiber network to this exciting infrastructure project,” said Kehler. “Our mission is to connect people and improve lives through industry-leading technology. By aligning with Morden’s goal of developing a skilled workforce that can stay local, we are committed to providing rural Manitoba students with the high-bandwidth connectivity they need to learn, thrive, and build their futures right here in the community.”
