MITT believes the student is important. Our ESL students set goals and work with instructors to learn what they need to be successful in Canada. We teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing using real world situations.

The English Language Centre at MITT is unique because the learning is Student Focused. Staff and students connect daily and work together to create a place of learning and support for newcomers. We encourage you to join our community: meet people from different countries, practice English, make friends.

The English Language Centre is dedicated to meeting the language and settlement needs of Newcomers to Canada. Our programs make it easier for newcomers to succeed in the labour market and settle into Canadian society.

History

Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology is a public educational institution that has been in operation since 1985. The school understands that newcomers play a vital role in the building of Manitoba's future and is committed to delivering quality language training through its English Language Centre.

The English as Second Language program began as two day classes, serving approximately 40 students. Since then, the program has expanded to 16 day and evening classes, serving hundreds of students each session.

Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology English Language Centre has qualified staff dedicated to providing an ESL program to meet the needs and goals of the students. The program includes language tasks that allow students to learn and build upon their existing skills, making it easier to integrate into and succeed in the labour market.

Supports at the English Language Centre

Students that attend classes at MITT’s English Language Centre can receive many supports to help with their studies and more.

Counsellors

Counselling is available to help students adjust to their new life and to create a supportive environment. The counselling includes information on services and programs for immigrants as well as guidance to aid in their successfully adapting to a new culture.

This is an interactive class for MITT students that incorporates the use of the computer as well as computer-based resources to facilitate and reinforce language learning. Some examples of computer-assisted language learning are researching, preparing presentations, exploring web-based resources, etc.

Students may receive a student card when they are enrolled. The student card includes a photograph of the student and the photo is taken at MITT.
