On Wednesday June 22 at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) held their 30th annual Convocation ceremony for the 2016 graduating class. Over 800 graduates from four campuses celebrated the occasion along with their family and friends.

As grads and guests were arriving at the RBC Convention Centre for the 2016 Convocation and Awards ceremonies, a historic partnership was being put to paper two floors below—as MITT and Red River College (RRC) committed to exploring new ways to work cooperatively to expand programs and services for students.

Penn-Co is a well-known construction firm who started out in Blumenort, southeast of Winnipeg, back in 1959. Today, they span the continent and have a number of significant projects underway in the Winnipeg area. Penn-Co also has a growing relationship with the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) which is helping our students get their start in the booming construction industry.

Shortly after graduation from MITT, Ms Campbell moved to The Netherlands where she began employment with The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as a Senior Technical Editor and Deputy Webmaster. Following 8 years in that position, she moved on to become the Web and Social Media Manager for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium where she resides and works today.

Congratulations are in order for John Sobkovich, an Instructional Assistant in our Graphic and Print Technician program. John has been awarded a Gold Medallion Achievement Award from PASS (Promoting Aboriginal Student Success), an organization recognizing Aboriginal achievement.

In honour of Joe Sawtus, and his commitment and devotion to the Motosport industry and community, a bursary fund has been established at Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology in the Motosport program. The bursary provides financial assistance towards tuition for students who share Joe’s passion for the community and the Motosport world in particular.

Jeff Ganczar is a man who sees opportunity everywhere but he believes that you have to work to get there, as he did. Jeff attended the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology/Winnipeg Technical College and graduated in 1996. He now operates one of the top steel fabrication companies in Canada – Capitol Steel - here in Winnipeg.
