Office of the President
Welcome to the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT)
I joined MITT in August 2014, shortly after new legislation was introduced to transform Winnipeg Technical College into what the institution is today – a unique approach to secondary and post-secondary education. Since arriving, I have witnessed significant increases in enrolment and have seen how MITT is creating new opportunities to collaborate with industry on the skills training necessary to fuel Manitoba’s success.
A key feature of our mandate is to respond to Manitoba’s labour market needs, which we do through direct partnership with industry to develop and provide training that leads straight to employment. Industry provides critical touch points throughout our students’ academic journeys and the many practicum and co-op opportunities prepare our students for permanent positions after graduation. As the nature of the labour market changes and the desire for new or next-career training opportunities grows, industry is working with MITT to support our learners.
MITT provides a unique, practical choice for career-focused students to pursue trades and technical training, with direct pathways into employment, or on to higher levels of education. We offer exceptional flexibility to earn dual credits, complete pre-employment requirements faster, and transition seamlessly into advanced training here or elsewhere.
The phrase we often use to describe ourselves is “Industry Driven. Student Focused”. It speaks to our collaborative approach with industry, but also emphasizes our commitment to students. Robust academic supports and resources help ensure our students’ success in the classroom. To help bridge them from the classroom to the career they want, we provide employment readiness and work skills sessions in every program we offer, as well as on-demand one-on-one career advice. That commitment translates into career-finding success: 90 per cent of our students find jobs at or shortly after graduation.
I am proud of our institution, the partnerships that help make it possible, our diverse and dynamic student body, and the staff and instructors who work tirelessly to prepare our learners for exciting career or future learning opportunities. We welcome your interest in what we do – whether as a prospective student, a potential industry / community partner or otherwise – and we encourage you to connect with us to arrange a tour of our campuses to learn more about how MITT can help you or your organization.
